Carmen Andrews Naturopathics

Tasmanian Natural Health

Hello, I’m Carmen,

I am a passionate and enthusiastic Tasmanian Naturopath. I offer online appointments to anywhere in Australia and see return patients face to face in Launceston. I love working as a clinical Naturopath and I feel it is such a privilege to be able to help my patients improve their health.

When you sit in front of me I will listen to you and your story. Together we try to put all the pieces together and work to determine the causes for your current health picture. I find that a lot of people, especially women come to me after not being heard by other medical professional. One of my main aims is to try and hear you.

I consider myself a family Naturopath and I welcome many different people into my clinic. I do have a special interest in women’s health, as I believe that women’s health is often undervalued and overlooked. As a mother myself I understand that supporting women to improve their own health often leads to supporting the health of the whole family.

I am also mum to two young energetic children, I love cooking and sharing recipes, making natural skin products and I am a seriously haphazard gardener.

What to expect in an Appointment?

How long does an appointment go for: The first appointment (the initial) goes for 1 hour and 20minutes, this is the information gathering session. After this return appointments go for approx 30-40minutes.

What kind of questions will I ask: I will ask about your presenting complaint (why you came in), we will also go through associated body systems, your past medical history, your family history, your current diet and lifestyle, any medication and/ or supplements and any recent testing that you have.

How should you prepare for your appointment: You don’t really have to do anything except be in the right headspace to chat for a bit. But it can be helpful if you have copies of any recent testing and names or photos of any medications and or supplements you take.

What to expect after the appointment: After your appointment is finished, I spend some time going over your notes, doing some extra research and preparing your treatment plan, this will get sent out after a couple of days. We may also organise further testing to help direct your treatment.

What kind of treatments do I prescribe/ suggest: My role as a Naturopath is to help you find the tools to support your own health. This means that almost every treatment plan will include dietary changes and lifestyle suggestions. I aim to make these as achievable as possible and where it is possible I usually use the slow and steady method of implementing changes. I also use nutritional supplements and herbs to compliment these diet and lifestyle changes.

What is Naturopathy?

Well, that is a huge question, But in a nutshell Naturopathy is a style of health care that focuses on the treatment of the individual as a whole. Naturopathy has 6 principles that guide our philosophy and how we work. They are: First do no harm (use the least invasive treatments first), The healing power of nature (your bodies inherent ability to heal, given the right conditions), Treat the cause (actually getting to the bottom of what’s going on rather than suppressing symptoms), Doctor as teacher (empowering our patients with knowledge), Treat the whole person (everything in you is connected and your emotional health affects your physical and vice versa), Prevention (aim to prevent further illness).
